Vinyl is a printable sticker material that has adhesive on the back which makes it easy to apply on any surface. Vinyl stickers are also known as sticky vinyl, vinyl decals or die-cut stickers. They are often used for decoration purposes and they come in white for printing on or a wide range of colours for cutout lettering and stickers. The most popular application for vinyl stickers is to decorate and brand business signs, vehicles and shop windows. They can however be used personally in different ways such as putting them on your laptop or even on your water bottle! Here follows 8 cool surfaces vinyl can be applied to including some insights into the application.

1. Stick Vinyl Stickers on Your Car

A sticker is a great way to express your personality and make your car distinctive. Businesses have their vehicles wrapped with eye-catching graphics for brand recognition and to help them stand out from their competitors. You can add racing stripes to your car or get that back window family cutout vinyl stickers with mom, dad, the kids and the dog. Bumper stickers are also popular as well as round licence disc holders.

Application: When applying vinyl to a vehicle preparation is vital. Cleaning the area so that it is free from dust and greasiness. Also, make sure the air temperature and the surface of the vehicle range between 20 – 30°C. Too cold the vinyl could peel, too hot and it could stretch. Depending on the size you might need an extra pair of hands to assist.

2. Stick Vinyl Stickers on Your Laptop

Not all laptops are created equally and adding some personality might be the best way to distinguish yours. Laptop stickers or skins can help you create a design that sets your laptop apart from others without breaking the bank. Now all you need to do is find it when you need to pack up for a presentation. Decocrew doesn’t have any laptop vinyl stickers available yet but you can still order them using our custom designs section.

Application: Once the area is clean, position the printed vinyl skin on the laptop and hold it in place. Remove the backing from one corner of the skin and stick it in position. Slowly remove the backing, ensuring the laptop skin is still in the correct position. Slowly smooth the sticky side of the vinyl down into position with your thumb or squeegee, working the small air bubbles to the edge as you go.

3. Stick Vinyl Stickers on Wood

There are a variety of stickers that can be applied to wood surfaces. Vinyl stickers are the most popular type of sticker because they can be easily removed and reapplied. These stickers come in all shapes, sizes, and colours and can be customized with your own personal message or design. A vinyl sticker is a great way to add personality to your home without having to paint lettering by hand. It’s an easy way to decorate for any occasion and it’s perfect for renters who don’t want to make permanent changes.

Application: Vinyl does not stick well onto untreated wood and we want to make sure that the vinyl is secured properly. In order to do this, the first step is to sand down any untreated wood you are working with. The next step is brushing on a thin basecoat layer like Polycrylic, wood stain or acrylic paint. Wait 24-48 hours for the coating to set before applying the vinyl to the wood.

printed frosted window vinyl

Stick vinyl stickers on glass or mirrors is one of the easiest ways to add a decorative touch to your home. There are many different types of stickers that can be used, including frosted, contravision or one-view vinyl film and metallic-coloured vinyl.

Frosted Vinyl

Frosted vinyl stickers almost look like sandblasting and are best for privacy because it lets light through but is opaque enough to obscure the view. It can also be beautifully decorative and really elevate a space.

Contravision Vinyl

Contravision vinyl is a printed one-way vision material used for glass windows and doors mounted on the outer side, creating a one-view window. Contravision vinyl has small holes, restricting visibility into a lower light level, it does NOT provide a 100% block out. So what amazingly, looks like solid printed vinyl from the outside isn’t. The sunlight is reflecting through the tiny holes in the film which means you can actually see right through it. This is because sunlight is brighter than internal light. The back of the vinyl is black so it provides a tint effect on the inside, protecting the room occupants from the glare of the sun.

Metallic Vinyl Lettering on Mirrors

Vinyl comes in many colours including stunning metallic colours like gold, and silver that look beautiful on mirrors. You can browse through our vinyl lettering or order your custom stickers here.

Application: Clean the surface dirt and grease from the glass. Use a lint-free cloth to avoid lint contaminants on the glass. Avoid using cleaning products which will leave a layer of polish or wax on the glass. You can clean the glass with an alcohol-based cleaner or use dishwashing liquid. This ensures that the vinyl will adhere to the window without any issues. Read more>>
